Robotic Surgery

Robotic oncology surgery for breast and thyroid disease, performed at CK Birla Hospital, Jaipur. Smaller incisions, less pain after, faster recovery, and insurance support.

Robotic surgical system in use
What it is

Surgery, performed through a console.

Robotic surgery isn't surgery by a robot. It's surgery by a surgeon, through a robotic platform: a console with magnified, three-dimensional vision and instruments that translate hand movements into smaller, steadier ones.

For breast and thyroid surgery that means hidden incisions, under the arm or around the areola, and a recovery counted in days rather than weeks.

Dr. Sood is trained in robotic technique for breast and thyroid surgery and operates the platform at CK Birla Hospital.

Why it matters

Five things patients notice

The benefits aren't theoretical. They show up in the days right after the operation, and again at every follow-up.

  • 01

    Smaller incisions

Tiny ports instead of long open cuts. Less tissue trauma, very faint scars, and a cosmetic result that holds up.

  • 02

    Less pain, less blood loss

The instruments do less damage to the tissue around them, so you bleed less and most patients only need mild painkillers afterwards.

  • 03

    Shorter hospital stay

Most patients go home in 24 to 48 hours. Open surgery for the same conditions usually keeps people in for 5 to 7 days.

  • 04

    Faster return to life

Office work and most routine activities are realistic at 7 to 14 days, against 4 to 6 weeks for traditional open surgery.

  • 05

    A better cosmetic result

The incision is hidden under the arm or around the areola, the port marks are tiny, and the closure is careful. Most patients can't easily find their own scars after a few months.

The journey

How a robotic procedure goes

From the first consultation to the four-week follow-up. What to expect, in plain language.

  1. 01

    Pre-surgical planning

Imaging and a face-to-face consultation set the plan. We review scans, biopsy reports, and your full history before deciding what the operation should look like.

  2. 02

    On the day

You're admitted to CK Birla. The anaesthesia team prepares you in theatre, and the robot is positioned and calibrated for the procedure you came in for.

  3. 03

    The console

Dr. Sood operates from the console next to you. Magnified three-dimensional vision, wristed instruments, and movements scaled down so the work is smaller and steadier than open surgery.

  4. 04

    Recovery & follow-up

Most patients are walking the same evening, eating the next morning, and home within 24 to 48 hours. Follow-up at 1, 4, and 12 weeks tracks healing.

Where it happens

Performed at CK Birla Hospital, Jaipur

Robotic surgery is performed at CK Birla Hospital, a tertiary facility with the robot, dedicated theatres, and the ICU support that complex oncology surgery needs. CK Birla also supports insurance for robotic procedures, which is still uncommon in the city.
